So you’re beginning to write your story, but you aren’t really sure what platform to write it on. But wait: what about all those amazing references that you have for your characters? And how on earth can you make that pesky, weed-like word ‘very’ go away? I’ve had to do a lot of searching for websites and platforms to help me with my writing, and I wanted to share a few of those websites with you as well. I hope that they help you sort out your ideas and improve your writing skills.

Reedsy
I found Reedsy when I was trying to come up with names for my characters and titles for my stories. Later, I found out that they have a writing platform called Reedsy Studio. This has helped me tremendously in keeping my book organized as a whole: it separates the chapters, gives you the option to add front and back matter to your book, and functions in the same way as Google Docs or Microsoft Word. I highly recommend it if you are looking to make your draft look more like a book.

I have Pinterest for both everyday use and my writing. Whenever I get an idea for a story, I start a board for it that contains aesthetics, images, character inspiration, and often historical information that matches up with the book that I am currently writing. Using Pinterest helps me keep my ideas organized and gives me a vision for when I don’t know what a scene is supposed to look like.

Lose The Very
This is a webpage that I found fairly recently. Lose the Very is a program that takes the word ‘very’ plus an adjective (for example, ‘confused’) and combines them into one word (such as ‘puzzled’ or ‘bewildered’). This could help you not only in writing your books but also for memos, research papers, and even songwriting. It’s really easy to use, and I highly recommend it.

Fantasy Name Generator
Whether you’re writing an original story or fan fiction, Fantasy Name Generator is extremely helpful in coming up with names for your characters. You simply select the generator for the specific type of name you’re looking for and continue to generate names until you find one that suits your taste. I used this largely for coming up with names for the characters in my earliest writings (which were fan fictions), but that doesn’t make it any less helpful.

This may seem like a short list of sites, but that’s mostly because I’m still searching for and learning about new websites for writers every day. If you know of any helpful websites or apps for writers, feel free to share them in the comments! I hope that these help you in your writing journey, and I wish you happy writing!
